Publication of Standardisation of Outcome Measurements for Pediatric Epilepsy Care
The International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) has taken a significant step towards improving epilepsy care by forming a group of experts dedicated to establishing standardized methods for measuring outcomes in epilepsy clinical practice.
The expert group, including Lorraine Lally, Leonie Wollscheid, Cassidy Megan, Sharon Mbugua, Tomás Mesa, and Professor Gus A. Baker, has identified 20 core outcomes for infants, children, and adolescents with epilepsy. These outcomes encompass not only seizure control but also developmental, behavioral, and cognitive aspects, acknowledging the comprehensive impact epilepsy can have on a child's life.
Utilizing these consistent outcome measures enables researchers and clinicians to more effectively compare results and identify best practices, ultimately enhancing epilepsy care and improving the quality of life for those affected by epilepsy.
